Pakistani intelligence agents, acting on a tip, arrested the former Taliban governor of Herat (Khairullah Kherkhawa). The prisoner was picked up near the Afghan border, where he had apparently been hiding out for the past few weeks. Kherkhawa will be questioned by the Pakistanis before being handled over to US forces.

In Kashmir, 19 died in rebel violence. All were rebels, except for one civilian.
