In Kashmir, anti-rebel operations left eleven rebels dead and many civilians wounded in land mine incidents. India does not feel that any Taliban fighters escaping from Afghanistan will end up fighting them in Kashmir. Pakistan has survived a wave of anti-government demonstrations because of the American operations in Afghanistan. The rapid defeat of the Taliban, and the pro-government attitudes of most Pakistanis won the day. Even in the Pushtun tribal areas, most Pushtuns were pro-government and not inclined to get behind religious fanatics. There is still strong pro-Taliban support in parts of northern Pakistan, nut this support declined quite a bit when the Afghan people turned on the Taliban.
