Pakistan admitted that it's air space was being overflown by US warplanes on their way to Afghanistan. Pakistan wants the air campaign to be frief, because as long as American bombs fall on Afghanistan there will be unrest among pro-Taliban populations in northwest Pakistan. A senior Moslem cleric was placed under house arrest before he could address an anti-US rally in central Pakistan. While Pakistan expects unrest in the pro-Taliban northwest, it hopes to keep things quiet in the rest of the country. In Quetta, 5,000 members of a nationalist party demonstrated against the Taliban and in favor of the deposed king of Afghanistan. In other cities on the Afghan border, pro-Taliban demonstrations were held.
