The army was called out to quell religious violence in Karachi, Pakistan, following the murder of five Sunni Moslem clerics (another was wounded). Shiite and Sunni gunmen battled each other, leaving at least twelve wounded and over fifty arrested. In Kashmir, rebels claim to have killed three soldiers and wounded sixteen others with landmine attacks.
