Even Moslems in Kashmir were upset by the recent series of massacres by rebels. It was widely known that the chief participants in the massacres were Pakistani backed rebel groups and some Moslems demonstrated in Kashmir against Pakistan's involvement. Another response to the massacres was anti-Moslem riots in western India, where four were killed and at least twenty injured. Meanwhile, the first round of ceasefire talks took place between hooded rebels and government officials. At the same time, bombings and attacks by rebels left 10 rebels and at least four civilians dead. The army has launched a major offensive against rebel bases in southern Kashmir (where most of the recent massacres took place.) In Pakistan, a bomb went off in the south, killing two and injuring four. Baluchi nationalists were suspected.
