The UN is going after the illegal money that is paying for a lot of the guns, and gunmen, running around the Congo. Neighboring countries have long looked the other way as illegal mining and logging operations took place just across the border in Congo. Bribes and threats inside Congo have allowed an illegal economy to evolve, guarded by private armies. UN inspectors now have legal authority, and troops to back them up, to investigate businesses in these lawless border areas.
