With elections scheduled for later this year, MONUC, the UN mission in Congo, is anticipating increased activity by rebels, separatists, bandits, and foreign fighter hiding out in the country's northeastern and eastern regions. MONUC has requested additional personnel, including 2,800 more troops, to bring the total to some. 19,500, and nearly 900 more police officers, to bring the total to 1,200, to supplement the Congo's 93,000 strong security forces.
