Some military aid for Colombian troops, like night-vision equipment, have been delayed because of the demands of the American military in Iraq and Afghanistan.
October 11, 2005: The navy discovered 8.3 tons of cocaine ($188 million worth), hidden next to river bank in the southwest. The navy intercepted FARC communications to get the information on the location. This haul accounts for about nine percent of the cocaine seized so far this year.
Acting on a tip, police found and dismantled eight small rockets, set up for firing at the presidential palace.
An outspoken anti-rebel politician senator, German Vargas, survived an assignation attempt when a bomb went off next to his car. Six other people in his convoy were wounded.
October 6, 2005: An increasing number of illegal drug smuggler aircraft are operating out of Venezuela. Some six tons of cocaine has been seized in the last few months, from three aircraft that were forced down by Colombia along the coast. It is getting too difficult for these aircraft to operate in Colombia, and it is believed that the Venezuelan government is tolerating the drug operations.
