Leftist politicians and pressure groups, inside and outside Colombia, are trying to reverse the disarmament deal made with the AUC. Critics charge that the amnesty is too lenient. The more numerous leftist rebels have refused to accept the same terms, and encourage their political allies to try and interfere with the AUC deal. If the AUC completes their disarmament, many of the AUC members will remain opponents of the leftist rebels, but within the law instead of outside it.
