The government strategy is a combination of better intelligence on rebel organization and operations, and better trained, more numerous and more active army and police operations against the rebels. For the last year, the rebels have found themselves under attack in areas where they are operated, unopposed, for years. The peace talks with the anti-leftist AUC rebels continues, and are almost complete. Many AUC rebels have already accepted an amnesty and disarmed. With all, or most, of the AUC out of action, more pressure would be on the FARC to either resist more strenuously, or get taken apart a piece at a time.
