For the third time in the past year, FARC has murdered the mayor of a Colombian town. FARC has told all mayors that they must either cooperate with FARC, or be killed. Most mayors defied the rebels, got government bodyguards, and went back to work. This FARC policy has contributed to the sharp decline in popular support for FARC, which began operating 40 years a go as a leftist movement for social change.
