The majority of AUC leaders are still willing to disarm, but it will cost lots of money. The 30,000 people on the AUC payroll want cash and job opportunities before the give up their well paid (or, at least paid) life of crime. The government is asking for foreign aid to assist in this process. Each AUC member who turns in their gun will require several thousand dollars in cash and services. The cost of disarming the AUC could come to several hundred million dollars. The AUC has offered to disarm 3,000 of their members by the end of the year as a good will gesture. This would force the government to come up with an acceptable "demobilization package" by the end of the year.
