In the first five months of 2004, the army has killed 1,054 rebels (FARC, ELN, AUC) and captured 4,334. Another 471 have surrendered. Overall, rebels taken out of action for the first five months of the year is fifteen percent higher than the same period last year.
During the five months, the army suffered 157 dead (49 of them due to landmines, an increasingly popular rebel weapon) and 315 wounded. The army fought 759 battles with the rebels.
