The army continues its sweep of FARC controlled areas of the major city of Medellin. So far, four policemen have died, 11 rebels (or suspected rebels.) At least 40 people have been wounded and 48 arrested. This is a unique operation, as for years, FARC and drug gangs have controlled neighborhoods in major cities, to use them as bases for drug operations. The government plans to use the task force of 3,000 police and troops operating in Medellin to clear out the FARC and drug gangs in other cities.
