The government has vowed to protect any municipal official who has been threatened with death, by FARC, for doing their job. The government points out that FARC is threatening 500,000 officials and cannot go after all of them. The government plans to concentrate it's security efforts in those areas of known FARC presence. The FARC terror campaign is very risky for FARC. Some government officials have resigned, but most Colombians appear to oppose the FARC campaign, making it easier for the government to launch a major military effort against FARC when the new, very anti-FARC, president takes power on August 7th.
