Fighting with rebels over the last three days has left some one hundred dead (15 soldiers and 87 rebels). This was the result of army and air force attacks on FARC units and camps. At the same time, there were nationwide demonstrations by farmers, who were demanding subsidies. Agriculture has been hurt by falling coffee prices and cheaper food imports from Ecuador. Rebel activity and flight of capital from Colombia are also a factor.
