Taiwan plans to buy recon pods for ten of its F-16 fighters to replace the seven or eight RF-5E TigerEye recon jets now in service. The 12th Recon Squadron has been re-established and is training pilots on F-16s. The RF-5Es are operated by the 4th Recon Squadron. Taiwan is developing its own anti-radiation missile to attack Chinese AWACS planes and, perhaps, ground-based air defense radars. The new missile is based on the Sky Sword 2 air-to-air missile. This will be carried only by the Indigenous Defense Fighters since the US prohibits Taiwan from using Taiwanese weapons on its F-16s.--Stephen V Cole
