The Pentagon has completed a study of the Chinese military and is quietly advising Taiwan that it needs to pay serious attention to improving its forces. The Pentagon recommends that Taiwan integrate its various aircraft into a unified battle plan, improve maintenance and logistics, and establish better pilot training. Taiwan has serious problems with convincing technically qualified people to join the military and remain in it. Taiwan needs to strengthen its missile defenses, fighter inventory, anti-submarine defenses, and defenses against cyber attacks.--Stephen V Cole
