Some 200 Falungong members demonstrated in central Peking and were promptly arrested. President Jain Zemin began a visit to Israel. The prime minister of Israel indicated that the complete AWACs deal with China would go through (the prototype aircraft now being built, plus seven or eight production models.) Israel insisted that the US knew all along what Israel was doing on the AWACs project and had not protested. China is interested in a broad range of military and civilian technologies from Israel.
