The Kosovar government and KFOR said that 1,194 people have died in 6,645 attacks since the NATO-led peacekeeping force entered Kosovo in July 1999. But 989 of those killed were Kosovar Serbs (or Kosovar Montenegrins), while only 104 were Kosovar Albanians. If it sounds like slowly paced ethnic warfare, thats because it is. On July 10 a UN report (authored by the UN Development Program) estimated that Kosovar civilians possess up to 460,000 firearms. A substantial number of those are assault rifles.
