The Macedonian government has been rocked by a financial scandal involving Defense Minister Ljuben Paunovski. Allegedly, Paunovski moved 11 million German marks from Macedonian defense ministry accounts and distributed the money to relatives (specifically, his father-in-law and a brother-in-law). The crime has shaken the government of Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski, which is still dealing with the NLA insurgency.
