The physical condition of Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman (hospitalized since November 1) continues to deteriorate. The Croatian government has taken presidential powers away from Tudjman by declaring him "unfit to govern." Parliament member Vlatko Pavletic was named interim president, which he can hold for 60 days. Croatian elections are scheduled for January 3.
