Angola: October 26, 1999

The Angolan government continues to try to carry the war to UNITA throughout the region. "Several thousand" Angolan government army troops are inside the Democratic Republic of Congo attempting to interdict UNITA supply lines and support areas inside the DRC. The government also said its forces had captured two more UNITA strongholds near Andulo, Angola, the towns of Nhareya and Mungo. The combat has made it difficult for aid workers to reach refugees trapped by the fighting. While the Angolan government (MPLA) may control the cities, UNITA still controls much of the countryside.
