The Angolan government ordered its troops to fight the UNITA rebels until the rebels are "wiped out." One senior Angolan officers called for the "total liquidation" of UNITA's forces. The officer said that if the Angolan government forces stop their offensive operations in central Angola, UNITA will simply reorganize. Meanwhile, several observers and analysts familiar with the current situation in central Angola believe that UNITA has intentionally put up very little resistance. UNITA seems to have withdrawn further into the Angolan bush.
