The remaining Islamic radicals have fled to remote camps in the coastal mountains, and the Sahara in the far south. There are only a few hundred of these, largely GSPC, men left and they are being energetically pursued by police and troops in the north, and troops (some trained and advised by American Special Forces) in the south. But the corrupt government and high unemployment in Algeria means that GSPC can still find recruits among the unemployed young men.
