Algeria: January 14, 2004

Algerian authorities have had some success mopping up more radical Islamic terrorist cells. Two terrorists affiliated with the GSPC and part of a cell active in the Zen mountains surrendered to the police.

At 1 A.M. the day before, Algiers's Security Agency and the government antiterrorism brigade killed one terrorist and arrested seven others in Algiers. Those seven arrested constituted a support network in Algiers that was supplying housing and food to GSPC cells.

Two terrorists were stopped at a road block, after taking possession of a Toyota truck that distributed butane gas and cross loading 25 bottles into a small tarpaulin-covered truck. The second vehicle was being driven towards an urban target. After interrogation, the surviving suspect gave up the names and locations of the other six. - Adam Geibel
