 The government denied it is negotiating with the unnamed groups holding 31 European tourists in southern Algeria. But local newspapers down there say that talks have been going on. Germany is threatening to send its GSG9 hostage rescue commandos, although Algeria has said it does not want foreign troops involved. Apparently someone knows something, but with journalists unable to contact the kidnappers, there's no way to confirm anything.
