An unidentified assassin killed the number three man in the largest Islamic fundamentalist organization; the FIS (Islamic Salvation Front). Most likely culprits are the fundamentalist hardliners who do not want to make peace with the government, as the FIS has. Islamic extremists killed three more people in two incidents. It was announced that "recently," nine soldiers were injured when a bomb exploded. Algeria will have to suppress the hard line  extremists without antagonizing more of the citizenry if peace is to return to the country
