The UN is calling for more nations to contribute peacekeepers, but no one is stepping forward. Afghanistan is a very difficult place to do peacekeeping in and most nations consider the risks too great. This leaves it up to the central government, which is slowly building a national police force and army. But the central government only has about 10,000 troops and police, and will not have a force of over 100,000 trained men for another 3-5 years.

Taliban continue to intimidate foreign aid workers, killing two Afghans working for the Red Crescent (Moslem Red Cross.) The UN has stopped work in eastern Afghanistan as a result of these attacks.
