The governor of the central Afghan province of Uruzgan foiled the third Taliban attempt to assassinate him. The Taliban have been trying, with some success, to kill civil and clerical Afghan leaders that support democracy and the current government. Many of the assassins are brought in from pro-Taliban areas in Pakistan. Some of the assassins have been caught and interrogated.
