The Afghan army undertook it's first major combat operation over the last three days. About a thousand Afghan troops worked with a few hundred American troops to clear illegal roadblocks (that demanded payments from passing vehicles) from roads in the south east, and search some villages for Taliban weapons and members. So far, several tons of weapons and ammo have been found.
The national army now has 5,000 troops, each member having undergone several months of training. Eventually there will be 70,000 troops in the army.
