 In the eastern city of Khost, four men died when a car bomb they had assembled went off prematurely. One of the four was a former Taliban intelligence officer. The other three were foreigners (two Pakistanis and a Yemeni.) Weapons and more bomb making materials were found in the vicinity. 

In the northwest, UN peacekeepers negotiated a truce between two tribal militias, whose week of fighting has left at least 17 dead.
