An  American patrol of four vehicles was ambushed in the south near Gereshk. One US Army Special Forces member was killed, as well as an Air Force man. Another soldier was wounded. Near Kandahar, US Special Forces clashed with Taliban, killing four and arresting six.

The Red Cross suspended travel by its staff after one was killed last week. This happened outside of Kandahar, where several vehicles were stopped by armed men. The  Red Cross water engineer, the only foreign passenger, was shot and killed by the armed men, who were apparently Taliban. The Afghans were not harmed, but were warned not to work for foreigners..
