US Special Forces, after training an Afghan infantry battalion, then go along with it as advisors as the units of the ANA (Afghan National Army) are sent to different parts of the country to disarm and pacify warlords and local militias. This works pretty well, as trust was built up during the training period, and only one of the 12 men in a Special Forces A Team is an officer, so the Afghan commander does not feel like he's being supervised by a bunch of American officers.
