  So far, the national army has five trained battalions containing 2,000 troops. A sixth battalion has just started it's ten weeks of training. The troops come from all the tribes of Afghanistan, although often only losers are sent by the warlord or tribal chief in charge of selecting who will go. The government has begun to enforce the law throughout the country, and a complicated game of bluff, bluster and gunfire is playing out as the warlords and tribal chiefs negotiate what they will get for what power they will give up.
