In central Afghanistan, local authorities alerted US troops to an ammunition dump in a cave. The cave was surrounded by trenches and other fortifications, but no one was there when American troops showed up. There were 540,000 rounds of heavy machine-gun (.50 caliber and 14.5mm) ammunition, that was removed. Engineers blew up the cave and fortifications.
