About a thousand US troops have gone into the southeastern mountains to look for al Qaeda. Local Zardan tribesmen, who have worked with American troops in the past, are currently engaged in a rebellion against the provincial governor. The US troop commander warned the Zardans that if they got in the way of American troops, there would be a fight. The Zardans have been establishing roadblocks and stopping all traffic. Civilian traffic often has to pay a bribe to pass.
