The U.S. Department of Defense reports that al Qaeda is buying new weapons and equipment. While not giving details, the report was based on material captured recently in Afghanistan. There is a worldwide black market in modern weapons and military equipment. Most of the dealers are in Eastern Europe and, if you have the cash, can deliver just about anything to anywhere on the planet. In the case of al Qaeda, the weapons and equipment probably came from arms dealers in northern Pakistan, where many areas are outside of government control.
