The Taliban has brought more worldwide criticism upon itself by declaring all statues as an offense to Islam and  ordered them destroyed. In particular, two huge stone  Buddha's are being destroyed, despite pleas from even Moslem nations to not do it. Meanwhile, hundreds of refugees are dying from cold and disease, with foreign aid being their only source of aid. The Taliban has cut drug production considerably, and still enjoys much popular support. But resistance does not come from just the Northern Alliance, as many Afghans are unhappy with Taliban rule.
