USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) comes alongside the oiler USNS Yukon (T-A0 202) in the turbulent seas of the western Pacific Ocean in an attempted replenishment-at-sea (RAS) evolution, Aug. 23, 2004. The Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group cut short its port visit in Guam Aug. 21 to skirt Super Typhoon Chaba (19W), which formed west of the island. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
