Germany is reorganizing it's army combat brigades to provide them with more engineer support. All of Germanys armored (Panzer) and mechanized infantry (Panzergrenadier) brigades are converting to the new format, which consists of six battalions and a headquarters company. There are two armor and one mechanized infantry battalions (or vice versa, depending on whether it's an armored or mechanized infantry brigade), one self-propelled artillery battalion, one armored engineer battalion and one logistics battalion. The main reason for this reorganization was to provide more engineering support. In combat, or peacekeeping, operations it is now possible to provide each combat battalion with an engineer company to deal with obstacles (especially mines).
