Counter-Terrorism: A Handful of Watch Lists

Archives

August 14, 2010: To deal with all the terrorist and bad-guy watch lists, a U.S. firm has developed a hand held electronic device that can scan just about any kind of ID's magnetic strip, and compare the name to over 160 databases containing the names of people who are not allowed to fly, or otherwise not to be allowed into many places. The latest versions of these lists can be easily updated, and the "Defense ID" device (a bit smaller than an iPad) quickly lets you know if a piece of ID belongs to someone you don't want on your base or in your facility. About 80 military bases and other secure facilities already use Defense ID, and other potential users are lining up because the device works.
