The MEKO consortium (which Blohm & Voss, Howaldtswerke Deutsche, Thyssen, and Thomson-DSF) has sold frigates to eight countries, and is about to increase this to ten. Malaysia will start building six MEKO-100 offshore patrol vessels early next year, and South Africa has contracted to buy four MEKO-200 patrol corvettes.--Stephen V Cole
