The Swedish Navy has begun receiving the first Type-62 heavy torpedoes from Bofors. These will replace the Type-612s now used by submarines and missile boats. The Type-62 is wire guided. It has a maximum speed of 40 knots, but if set for a lower speed can reach a range of 40,000m. It uses 85 percent high test peroxide and 15 percent kerosene for fuel. It is effective in shallow water, or in water up to 500m deep.--Stephen V Cole
