Britain's 15-ship naval task force (the largest since the 1982 Falklands War) arrived off Cyprus in unusually stormy seas on January 27th for military exercises in preparation for a possible U.S.-led strike on Iraq. The fleet approached the island after several hours' delay, but due to tornado winds was unable to anchor close to the coastline and had to remain in international waters. - Adam Geibel
