Myanmar ordered 50,000 rounds of 82mm mortar ammunition from Vietnam for $2 million, but when the first batch arrived it was found to have a high defective rate and was returned; the remaining shipments were canceled. Under a new deal, Myanmar will buy 5,000 rounds of 60mm mortar ammunition subject to quality control approvals. Myanmar has also purchased a batch of 100 SA-16 Gimlet (Igla-1E) shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles.Stephen V Cole
