Austria has drafted a new two-year defense budget (the first time it has issued a two-year budget) which provides for an increase in the annual defense budget from $1.4 billion to $1.43 billion. This reaches 0.81% of Gross National Product, and is a step toward the current Austrian government's pledge to devote 1% of the Gross National Product to defense.--Stephen V Cole
