The Russian armed forces, in an effort to stamp out corruption, prosecuted and convicted 300 officers and over 2,000 troops for corruption and abuse last year. In one case, a general received a three year sentence for beating up a subordinate (and a long list of other abuses.) A total of 9.500 investigations were started. Some of the cases involve taking bribes from civilian organizations, with 25 officers being convicted of that. This attempt to clean up and reform the military has been going on for several years now, but the corruption and abuses persist.
