The US Army Reserve cannot afford the cost of maintaining its equipment. To deal with this situation, it will build six climate-controlled storage facilities around the country and store one-third of its equipment for three years. There will be no maintenance on the stored equipment, which will be organized into unit sets. Units will have to continue their training with fewer vehicles, but in the event of war, the stored equipment would be quickly loaded on ships and sent overseas where it would link up with newly-activated reserve units.--Stephen V Cole
