Murphy's Law: Chinese Missile Fuel Explodes in Iran

Archives

July 15, 2025: Two months before the devastating Israeli air strikes on Iranian military targets, there was another disaster at the port of Shahid Rajaee. Here some improperly stored chemicals caught fire and spread, killing 30 and injuring over a hundred. The chemical was sodium perchlorate, a key ingredient in solid fuel rocket motors. The June Israeli airstrikes destroyed the factories that used sodium perchlorate to manufacture rocket motors, as well as the plants that built the missiles. The sodium perchlorate was imported from China, which may be reluctant to resume shipments as it is now obvious that these shipments are for weapons, not just non-military products. Although China is the largest exporter of just about everything in the world, the Americans are deliberately cutting back on those imports by moving production back to the United States or countries that have long been allies or reliable trading partners.
